When he was just 19, officer John Nunneley arrived in Kenya to join the King's African Rifles, a famous colonial regiment. He first led his askaris in formerly Italian-occupied Ethiopia and Eritrea, and then in Burma's Kabaw Valley—otherwise known as the "Valley of Death"—where they fought Japan's elite White Tigers. Nunneley's revealing memoir captures a vanished world, as well as the terror of battling a fierce enemy in close quarters.

The Forrestal class (Forrestal, Saratoga, Ranger, and Independence) was the first completed class of US Navy supercarriers, so-named for their 25 percent size increase over the World War II-era carriers such as the Midway class, and the strength of their air wings (80–100 aircraft, compared to 65–75 for the Midway, and fewer than 50 for the Essex class). Design-wise, the Forrestals were a huge improvement over their predecessors, being more stable and comfortable, while maintaining advancements such as the armored flight decks that had been introduced with the Midway.

The latest addition to the successful Second World War Battleground Europe Series, describes the fierce campaign, codenamed INFATUATE, mounted in November 1944 to clear the way through the port of Antwerp. This was a vital task as the Allies lacked sufficient port facilities to provide for the increasing quantities of war supplies required as the advance eastwards took them closer to Germany. There was a danger of lines of communication becoming overextended.

Najdłuższa kampania II wojny światowej toczona na Oceanie Atlantyckim i tworzących go morzach; trwała od września 1939 roku do kapitulacji Niemiec w maju 1945. Największe natężenie zmagań przypadało na okres wiosna 1940 - lato 1944 roku. Najważniejszymi uczestnikami tych działań morskich były: brytyjska Royal Navy i niemiecka Kriegsmarine, a od roku 1941 także flota amerykańska. Bitwa o Atlantyk miała ogromne znaczenie dla obu stron. Niemcy, próbując zniszczyć flotę handlową sprzymierzonych, chcieli doprowadzić do załamania się potencjału gospodarczego Wielkiej Brytanii, ta zaś - wraz ze swoimi sprzymierzeńcami - główny wysiłek wojenny w ramach bitwy o Atlantyk, skupiła na obronie morskich linii komunikacyjnych.

"Nautilus' tells the story of the submarine, a vessel which revolutionized naval warfare in the course of 50 years, and the men who designed them and worked on them. In their short history submarines and submersible craft have played a decisive role in two world wars and today they roam the oceans, bearers of nuclear arsenals, ready to surface anywhere and strike any target. The book starts with the dramatic story of how Russian scientists and naval officers set about the task of constructing a nuclear submarine from scratch and with little knowledge of advances in nuclear physics in the rest of the world. The story then goes back to the days of the early pioneers, and follows rivalries and developments up to the First World War. During the war, submarines went into conflict for the first time. The German U Boat commanders became heroes at home as they roamed the seas, sinking hundreds of thousands of tons of British shipping. After the war miniature underwater craft, used for commando raids and suicide missions, were developed. In the Second World War we follow the fortunes of three subs - one British, one American and one German - and share the experiences of hunted and hunters, in a conflict in which for the first time submarine operations were integrated into overall naval strategy with devastating effect.

As the left most inland flank of the D-Day landings, Sword Beach was thought most likely to receive the first German counterattacks. The British troops selected for the assault had the tasks of securing the beach and advancing on the heavily defended medieval town of Caen. The troops also were determined to link up with British paratroopers and glider units who had landed the night before on special missions and were not equipped to withstand an armored counterattack alone. Backed up by an impressive array of modified armored vehicles, the veteran 3rd Division, spearheaded by No. 4 Army Command.
