December 1894

Work on excavation in the same places was restarted (except for the part on the north side), and almost the whole peristyle is now completely cleared. This peristyle consists of 7 columns on the short side.

On the south side, are 4 pilasters next to 4 columns, carrying marble statuettes of a Bacchus and 2 Satyrs. The statuette from the column at the south-east corner is missing. In front of the statuette next to the column at the south-west corner is a circular marble basin; and in front of the 2 statuettes of the central columns is also a marble basin, and another circular basin is in front of the south-east column where the statuette is missing.

On the east side, starting from the south side, the fourth and fifth columns were also equipped with statuettes, although these have not been found, and in front there was the usual marble basin, which was found in several pieces; in the next intercolumniation a circular table came to light, also in several pieces, which is supported by 3 table legs with lion’s head and feet. On the north side, which is not completely cleared, as was said, has come to light at a distance of 3.50 m from the columns, and in the centre, a rectangular basin of Greek marble, shell-shaped, in the middle of which is a sea creature in low relief and further in front on the same axis a column for jetting out water. Two herms with small columns decorated in relief with leaves stand further in front, topped by two-faced heads, of a bearded figure on one side and a woman on the other; and finally another small column rises up nearby, without its table. On the west side, between the north-west column and the other one to the west, between the third and fourth columns, next to which are two statuettes depicting two cherubs, is another marble basin.
