Inventory Number in the Delos Museum: A3463

•  Field number (written on back of figurine): 6918

Previous Publications: Laumonier (1956: 145, pl. 42, no. 384)

Height: 89.2 mm

Iconographic type: “Oriental Aphrodite” body of the seated, clothed type,

Wearing a central medallion (now hard to discern because of the dullness of the

Mold) between breasts (Chapter 4.2.2.3)

Archaeological Context: Unknown (Chapter 5.10.1)

Fabric Type: Reddish “Cycladic” fabric, untempered, levigated (Chapter 2.5.3)

Manufacturing Techniques:

•  Type of temper used (Chapter 3.4.1): Untempered

•  Number of molds used (Chapter 3.4.2): Double-molded

•  Condition of mold: Extremely dull, nearly illegible

•  Solid or hollow: Hollow

•  Presence of vents (Chapter 3.4.3)? No

•  Presence of separate base? No

•  Presence of visible fingerprints?

•  Evidence of reworking (Chapter 3.4.3)? Surface smoothing, probably with a fine cloth; piercing of shoulders to hold the rod for the attachment of articulated arms

•  Handmade applique elements present (Chapter 3.4.2)? No

•  Method of attachment of head, limbs, etc. (Chapter 3.4.2): Too fragmentary to tell how head was attached; a rod, probably wooden, would have affixed the now-lost articulated arms to the body

•  Evidence of “bubbles” created by plaster mold (Chapter 3.4.2)? No

•  Appearance of back of figurine: Roughly modeled

•  Presence of preserved slip, self-slip, and/or limewash (Chapters 3.4.4, 3.4.5)? Limewash

•  Presence of preserved paint (Chapter 3.4.5)? Yellow paint (10YR 6/8) on the center of the chiton, in the grooves around the central medallion and the upraised line of drapery that descends from that medallion to the knees The presence of yellow paint in the grooves around these features suggests compatibility with the common color scheme for figurines of this type, in which yellow is used for the medallion and the line of drapery beneath it, and pink colors the rest of the chiton (Chapter 4.2.2.3); no pink is preserved on A3463, though

•  Evidence for repair: No
