‘You have taught your land not to transgress the oath, to observe norms. They (the Assyrians) do not cross the lines you have traced, and conform to your judgement. They are respectful and careful towards the firm decision of your supreme power. They trust your benevolent judgement, they seek your divinity. You are their great and good support, their vast protection. Trusting in your lordship, they consult in the middle of the sky your solution (to their problems).
(On the contrary) the other lands in unison surround your city, Ashur, with a circle of evil, and together they hate the shepherd you have chosen to keep the people in order. All the lands to which you have provided a benevolent support, despise you; while you have extended your protection over them, they reject your land. The kings you have filled with good things continue to disobey you; those to whom you have allowed your favour, prepare to do battle against you.
For your city, Ashur, battle is continuously ready, a mass of attacks is moving against it. Enemies and rivals do not cease to look at your residence with evil intentions, and they make arrangements to sack your land, Assyria. Day and night, all the (foreign) lands desire the destruction of your wonders, they pester everywhere to destroy your cities, they plot to defeat you. All the wicked ones gather in a dark day, without sun; hostile hands are stretched to break the Assyrian armies. As wicked people, they plot against their benefactor; they transgress the norms of the lord of all the lands; forcefully, they gather princes (allies) and auxiliary troops.
Of your land, of Assyria, you are the lord: be a mighty lord, a vindictive prince! May your supreme power always be its protection, and may it support its fight! O lord, for your land Assyria, do not leave your beneficial arm inactive! O Ashur, great lord, king of the gods, Assyria is yours! O Assyrian Enlil, lord of ah the lands, Assyria is yours!’
